DO
Talk - Talk to family, friends, professionals, and Citizens’ Advice. Talking helps.
Act - Take action. Reflect on your position, if you take action - you are in control - you will overcome that feeling of panic and loss. You will find out about your option.
Rest - Take a break, rest and exercise are important.
Honesty - Be honest with yourself to recognise the problem - Kidding yourself doesn’t kid your creditors.
Write - Write it all down. Income, expenditure, assets, liabilities (debts), ideas and thoughts. Take advice.
Bites - Don’t over promise be conservative & realistic. Take bites of progress as good progress. Make your repayment successes regularly, affordable and take success in these bites - eventually, if you keep going at the same rate you will make it.
DON’T
Hide - This doesn’t help anyone - not you and not your creditors.
Blame - Don’t blame yourself (or anyone) - focus on resolution, option finding and taking action.
Prioritise - All creditors are important - not just the one who shouts first or loudest. Deal with them all - not only when they appear.
Lie - This upsets creditors and gives no credence to your ability to repay.
